The Definition

Since I’ve introduced how fashion, marketing, and public relations are intertwined I think it would be appropriate to incorporate a better understanding of the latter two.

Marketing is defined by the Merriam-Webster dictionary as “the process or technique of promoting, selling, and distributing a product or service.” How we dress promotes our image. Many people will argue that what is on the inside is more important. Essentially, they are right. However, people who do not know you or barely know you do not understand a thing about who you are on the inside. They are judging you by what they can see.

Public relations is defined as “the business of inducing the public to have understanding for and goodwill toward a person, firm, or institution…,” (Merriam-Webster). Since we understand that we are marketing the image we possess, it is important to discuss how public relations correlates with our image. We want others to have a positive view of us. Maintaining this view involves public relations efforts. As I mentioned before, this positive view will stem from not only who we are on the inside but also how we look on the outside.

A person’s way of dressing alludes to many things about their being.

  1. Hi Elizabeth,
Going where no brunette has gone before
Turley sounds as if it is an undercover operation. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. As God is the beholder of all mankind, He finds beauty in all of us. Yes mankind shall not judge by one’s outer appearance; nevertheless, it happens at first glance. We only have one time to make a first expression. The clothes we wear, and our appearances speaks volumes to the eyes. On the other hand, when a person opens his or her mouth, the true essence of who they are come to the surface. We must not judge a book as it is said, by its cover, but it is the cover in which determines if the book will be a good read. We look for substance in people for all the wrong reasons. As Christians, the foundation of getting to know someone is to ask questions about their spirituality. See what their love is for the Heavenly Farther. If it is a mate one is looking for, first find out if the potential mate has love for the Lord first, second, loves themselves and if their priorities are in order, truly they are capable of loving someone else.
