Review of the New Shopping App Tophatter

Hey gals! I hope those of you in the north east are staying warm during your blizzard up there. I’m in Dallas so I’m a little bit jealous of your snow storm. If you are stuck at home and can’t get out, now is the perfect time to do a little online shopping through some of the best new shopping apps out there. I recently got to try out Tophatter, it’s a shopping app like eBay but auctions are held live so there’s no waiting around for the auction to end. The items I bid on were a steal and surprisingly high quality!

One of the first things I wanted to try from this shopping app was their makeup. While Tophatter isn’t a makeup shopping app, they do live auction name brand makeup. I bid on Bare Minerals Original Foundation Click Lock & Go Sifter and LORAC Limited Edition Pink Champagne palette. Like I said before, I was skeptical of these products when I bought them as they only cost me about $11 each but upon receiving them, I was pleasantly surprised. They arrived quickly and in good condition. As long as the items are authentic, I think Tophatter has the potential to be one of best shopping apps.

The last thing I bought was this 10 ft. iPhone charging cable in rose gold. My cat Petunia chewed through my old charger and since I didn’t want either of us to be electrocuted, I bought a new one on Tophatter. Most of the time Apple products won’t work with chargers that aren’t made by Apple. This one definitely charges my iPhone though! The cable is durable and came in a really great color too. Hopefully Petunia won’t be chewing through this anytime soon.

If you’d like to give this shopping app a try, use my referral code (link here) and get $10 off your first purchase! It’s a great way to test out the app and save some money on a product you’re interested in. Happy shopping!

Dallas Fashion Designers at FGI Rising Star Event

rising star awards

Hey fashion lovers! I’m so excited to share with you the amazing experience I had the other night attending Fashion Group International’s Dallas Rising Star of 2017 event! My good friend Laila invited me to the fashion show and I couldn’t be more thankful! Let me be totally honest here, I had never been to a real fashion show and had no idea what to expect. I’m a wannabe fashion blogger in Dallas with no experience in the fashion industry beyond what I’ve taught myself and learned from other bloggers. This experience reignited my love of fashion blogging and I’m so excited to share my night with you!

Dallas couture fashion

Ok first of all, I thought I had pretty good taste in clothing and fashion but FGI Rising Star event proved me wrong. When I left my apartment for the evening, I was pretty convinced my Donna Karan 2013 little red dress was the perfect ensemble for the event. Upon walking into the event space in the Dallas Galleria, I was immediately shocked by the couture, high fashion styles worn by other attendees. Dallas fashion is so much more than cowboy boots and jeans! You know when you look at someone and just know that their outfit is worth more than your car? That was pretty much everyone in the room. Except for me. Like I said, Donna Karan 2013 (that I got at an outlet).

The actual fashion shows were amazing. My favorite Dallas designer’s fashions was hands down Esé Azénabor’s collection. Everything had structure and clear purpose to it. I found myself about jumping out of my seat to get a good photo of each design that came down the runway. There was so much creative talent in one room it was absolutely wonderful to be apart of it!

Attending this event taught me so much about the fashion world that I didn’t know before. The styles on the runway aren’t necessarily meant to be worn but meant to showcase the art and thought that goes into making an outfit glamorous. So a big thank you to Fashion Group International of Dallas for putting on such a great event!

I honestly have so many more photos to share with you but these were the best ones I could get on my good ol’ iPhone 6. I simply refused to be that person that brings a big Nikon camera with several lenses to get a few good shots. Besides, I don’t want to be black listed from other events! My fashion career would end before it really began. Who wants that when they’ve worked so hard?

5 Things Every Girl Should Know About Starting a Fashion Blog

how to start a successful blog

I’ve been thinking about writing a blog post on the craziness that is starting a fashion or lifestyle blog for awhile. So many girls want to start a blog or have started one and become discouraged with it after a few weeks or months. When I started Witty n Pretty, I thought fashion blogging was going to be glamorous and dare I say it- easy! Oh, how wrong I was. Today, I’m sharing with perspective bloggers and new bloggers wondering what in the heck they’re doing, 5 things to know about starting a blog

Blogging is Hard

Duh! Nothing worth doing is ever easy, right? I found that out quickly and if you haven’t already, you will soon. Fashion blogging is a saturated market with tons of competition from girls (and a few guys) that have more money than you, better photography skills, and just seem to have it all together. You’ll think you have it all together one minute and the next, you’ll want to give up. Don’t. Keep going!

There are No Rewards… at First

Contrary to popular belief, fashion blogging is not a “get rich quick” scheme. It simply doesn’t work like that. Fashion, lifestyle, and beauty blogging involves tons of work with little reward at first. Personally, I didn’t reap any rewards in terms of free product until about a year and a half of blogging consistently. After that, I started getting things here and there, which let me tell you, was a HUGE deal for me.

Fashion Blogging Takes Commitment

The number one reason why most blogs fail is because the blogger gives up after 3 months. Seriously, 3 months! People want things to happen quickly and let’s be real, the things we want the most God usually makes us wait for. To have a chance at success, you must blog consistently, provide information or inspiration, and know who you’re writing to. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve scrolled through my WordPress Reader and seen posts titled something like “Sorry I’ve Been Gone” followed by an entire paragraph about their absence. Readers don’t want excuses; they want good content.

A Blogger Wears Many Hats

When I started blogging, I thought I would be a writer not a photographer, social media guru, SEO expert, website coder, public relations girl, and a marketer. I was wrong. Because it’s just me running my Dallas-based fashion blog, I have to do it all myself (with a little help from my boyfriend, David.) You will have to learn things that make no sense to you and you have no interest in. But guess what? It makes your knowledge of the industry incredibly robust so that when you do become a famous fashion blogger, you know everything there is to know about blogging.

The Comparison Game is Toxic

I think girls compare themselves more to each other than guys ever will. If you don’t agree with me, you will after becoming a fashion blogger. When you start paying attention to what other bloggers are doing and who they are, you’ll begin comparing yourself to everyone else. You’ll begin to wonder why everyone else has bigger and better followings, wardrobes, photos, brand connections, and even longer eye lashes than you. Let me tell you, this comparison game is so dangerous to your self-esteem. I’ve gotten sucked into so many times and it takes a whole lot of effort to get out. Compare yourself to no one except the person you were the day before. That’s who you’re trying to beat.

Stay tuned next week for an exciting announcement on something I’m launching for girls new to blogging or who’d like to start! You’re going to love this!

Spoil Your Skin With Coconut Oil Bath Products

texas locally made

Every time Monday rolls around I wonder where the heck my weekend went! I did my grocery shopping, cleaning, and enjoyed my Saturday date with David… so where did the rest of my Saturday and Sunday go? Ya feel me? Throughout the work week I try to find ways to make my evenings relaxing and my favorite way to do this is by pampering myself! If you enjoy some “me-time” every week, then you’re going to love the delicious bath and body products from Simply Divine!

organic sugar body scrub

When I was a teenager, I lived for Bath & Body Works. Now that I’m an adult and have learned to read product labels, I always opt for something organic and natural as opposed to mass-produced items. Sara, owner of Simply Divine in Austin, sent me a few of her bath and body products to enjoy and share with you guys. All of her creations are carefully crafted and made deep in the heart of Texas. You won’t find anything bad in these skin products! Read on for my product recommendations!

Secret to Great Skin Care

What’s the secret ingredient? Coconut oil, of course! We’ve heard all about how great coconut oil is and honestly, I hadn’t tried it until I started using Simply Divine body scrubs and bath soaks! The first thing I tried was the “Rosé All Day” bath soak. Rose petals, lavender blossoms, and dead sea salt make for one of the most fragrant and relaxing scents I’ve ever smelled! When I opened the super cute little mason jar to sprinkle it in my bath, it immediately gave me this happy, relaxed feeling. Sometimes a girl just needs a hot bath, you know?

I’m not even sure where to start with the “Brown Sugar Body Scrub” because it was legit the best thing I’ve ever smelled! I kid you not when I say, it smells like something you’d find in a bakery. And I may or may not have tasted it just to see if it tasted as good as it smelled (it did.) When I was enjoying my little pampering session in my bathtub, I lathered this stuff on my legs and arms to exfoliate and it did not disappoint!

Finally, I finished my bath time with the “Sweet Renewal Face Scrub.” This was another product that I really wanted to eat because it smelled so amazing. That’s not weird, right? I gently rubbed it on my face to exfoliate and it left me with a brighter complexion, which is always nice to have!

If you purchase anything this week, make sure it’s one of these locally made products! They’re reasonably priced and a great addition to your beauty collection. I truly believe that supporting small businesses is the key to growth and sustainability in our communities and Simply Divine certainly deserves our attention! Enjoy your me-time and spoil your skin this week and don’t forget to check out Sara’s online store! Use code “glow” for 20% off your next order!

Local Boutique Finds in San Antonio

boutiques in texas

One of my favorite things about being a fashion and home decor blogger is being able to feature amazing new boutiques and small businesses. Since moving to Dallas, I’ve gotten to find some of the cutest little shops this city has to offer. However, one of my favorite boutiques is the Anderson Road Co., run by two awesome people in San Antonio! Since not everyone is blessed to live in the great state of Texas, their store is online so everyone can enjoy it. Here are a few of my favorite products!

W & P Pineapple Shaker

For someone who appreciates functionality and style, you’ll love this cocktail shaker! It has a copper finish but is made from sturdy stainless steel. I run out of cabinet room in my kitchen pretty quickly so I love home decor items that I can have sitting out on my counter top!

Maxx & Unicorn Pill Key Ring

I can’t stand normal key rings that require me to chip at least one nail to get a key onto them. This pill key ring is made right here in the USA from brass.

Root & Willow Lava Scrub

A great body scrub is hard to find, but this one is made from organic ingredients! This particular fragrance is called Rosewood & Honey and includes a daily mantra to look forward to every time you enjoy it.

W & P Host Book

A lot of times I find books like these are only going to gather dust on my coffee table, but this book is different! It’s a recipe book that includes recipes for smaller gatherings and larger ones. Entertaining is something that I haven’t done much of, so any how-to book I can get my hands on is fun for me to read!

Cotton & Flax Tea Towel

My collection of cute hand towels continues to grow every time I go shopping! This adorable tea towel is handmade and uses eco-friendly ink for the neat grid lines printed on the front.

Support small business and please give the Anderson Road Company a visit! They’re offering 10% off purchases today for an added bonus!
