Cozy Sweater Under $30

red sweater in west villageIt’s been a hot minute since I’ve written anything! Life gets really busy and frankly its easier to update my Instagram than sit down and write a blog. Lately, I’ve been trying to focus more on filling my closet with winter staple items I’ll wear again and again. I found this sweater for $26 at Nordstrom Rack and had to share it with you! Normally, I wait until something goes on 70% off clearance before I’ll buy it (I’m a very serious bargain hunter) but in this case, I figured this red sweater would be something I’d wear a lot this year. And now I wear it once a week!

Its super chunky and perfect to wear on days where your jeans aren’t fitting quite right! It comes in 3 other colors I believe and goes well with just about anything. Nordstrom Rack always seems to have loads of closet staples like tee shirts and sweaters for very reasonable prices. I check their clearance section often and am always amazed at what I find! There ya go, your shopping tip of the day!

Christmas Tree Farm in Flower Mound & Choosing Decoration Styles

flower mound christmas tree farmHi everyone! It’s been such a busy December so far between Christmas parties and work. David and I both work in a similar industry so planning for the first quarter of 2019 is in full swing. We did get time to go out to a Christmas tree farm in Flower Mound to get a real tree though! I was so excited! I haven’t had a real tree since I was little and frankly, I had no idea how heavy these things were until David and I had to drag it into the house. It smells SO good though! I’m still decorating it and slowly gathering lights, ribbon, and ornaments to put all over it.

My Hallmark loving self was hoping it would snow and fuzzy mittens would be required for the day but no such luck.

Christmas Tree Decoration Styles

I was scrolling through my Instagram feed earlier looking at how everyone decorates their Christmas trees and holy smokes, I need to step my game up! Between all the gorgeous flocked trees and the crazy amount of ornaments on them, I definitely feel a little behind on my decorating. I’ve always had a difficult time deciding if I want a “designer tree” with a color scheme and lovely ribbon all over it, or if I want an old fashioned tree with heirloom ornaments and popcorn strings. When David and I buy a home, I’m going to have both because I think both are fabulous!

Also, how cute is this doormat?! I found it at Target for $10! I put it on my front step and hung a wreath on our door! I love outdoor Christmas decorations but crazy enough, our house right now doesn’t have electrical outlets outside! I was so bummed when I discovered that! So I can’t put twinkle lights on our bushes or inflate a big snowman on our lawn. I’m way not happy about that so the doormat will have to suffice. Sigh.

$13 Steve Madden Wedges!

Hey everyone! I had to share this great shopping find from a week ago with you! I’m a sucker for a great bargain hunt and my favorite thing to do is shop for summer and spring clothes in the fall and then fall and winter clothes in the summer and spring. You get the best deals! Last weekend when I went shopping, Steve Madden was having a 70% off sale on summer sandals and these super cute wedge sandals were (wait for it!) $13 originally $100!! Score!

Here’s a link to them! They make me about 6 feet tall so they’re very high. I’m 5’8″ for reference. These are so cute with white frayed jeans and a chambray top! I can’t wait for spring to wear them. It’s like 32 degrees right now in Dallas so these sandals will be in my closet until further notice!

Fall Style Wish List for 2018

fall style wish list

Happy Friday everyone! I’ve been counting down to the weekend for a million reasons but largely because my paycheck hits my bank account and I can do a little retail therapy! Wahoo! The temperatures have been dropping a little recently and I’ve been breaking out a sweater here and there but my closet would definitely appreciate a few more hanging inside. That and some new boots!

I’ve always had a hard time figuring out what my style is when it comes to fall fashion. I love classic cable knit sweaters and duck boots but I’m also a big fan of the slouchy, off the shoulder sweaters and over the knee boots everyone wears. A bit of preppy, a bit of on trend! I think that’s the best part of personal style, you can do it all or none of it if you want to!

Best Home Decor Ideas on a Budget

decorating for cheap

Happy Friday! It’s been a long week but luckily today, I’m headed out to a ranch near San Antonio, Texas for a weekend getaway with my boyfriend and his family (look for pictures next week!) I’ve been looking forward to this for the last month. Before leaving on my vacation though, I wanted to share a little tour of my apartment’s living room that I designed and styled on a budget! Living rooms should be cozy without sacrificing style, which is what I’m always trying to accomplish in mine. Keep scrolling for my DIY and home decor on a budget tips!

Ok first of all, if you haven’t embraced the tassel trend in your life, then you’re doing everything wrong. Tassel garlands are my favorite thing to decorate with and I have them all over my house. They’re inexpensive and can’t easily be destroyed by kids or pets. Or by boyfriends in my case. I found this adorable tassel garland at TJ Maxx for $5!

If you love pretty artwork on your wall like I do but don’t want to pay a pretty penny for it, then you’ll love this next DIY! If you notice in the pictures above, I have 3 framed quotes on my wall. Would you believe that each one cost me less than $7? Here’s how I did it- I bought the pretty gold frames from Michael’s on sale for $6 each and found the artwork for $1 on Etsy! I printed each quote out and put it in a frame for a cheap home decor DIY. Frankly, no matter how much money I make someday, this will be my go-to living room decor!

political books on a bookshelf

When you’re just starting out and have no furniture, it can be really difficult to get everything you need to make your apartment into a home. Furniture is pricey! Knowing that we needed something to put underneath our TV that we hung on the wall, I went out in search of a cabinet or something that would make the space look less empty and provide storage. I went to Nebraska Furniture Mart in Kansas City and came across this pretty gray hutch left over from a couple who only wanted the bottom half. The best part was that it was only $50! Needless to say, I put it in the back of my boyfriend’s truck and headed home.

Styling this was so much fun because it gave me lots of room to play around with accessories! My boyfriend, David, has loads of books so obviously the shelf quickly turned into a bookshelf. I placed little decorative items on the shelf with the books to give it a personal touch and then a little wicker basket to conceal David’s remote controls and video games.

The “eat cake for breakfast” sign has a broken hook from our move so I couldn’t hang it but also couldn’t bare to part with it mostly because I found it at Marshall’s for $9. Having extra pillows that came with our couch, I put them in the empty space underneath the shelf and added the frame for some added interest.

Styling a coffee table is no simple thing I’ve found. Particularly because my coffee table is an awkward shape. To add some height and interest to my coffee table, I placed a candelabra and stack of marble “Don’t Mess With Texas” Coasters on it. Frankly, I love how it turned out. It’s simple and still functional. When You have a boyfriend and kitty cat around you realize how quickly those two things become important.

styling an arm chair

Ok this is my favorite part! My adorable little chair by the window! David’s parents got me this turquoise chair for Christmas and then I added the soft blanket and little floral pillow, which you can find in the Target Dollar Spot for $3!

Home decor on a budget can be difficult but frankly, it gives me the opportunity to be creative and hunt around for great deals. I adore my living room and how well it suits my style! A beautiful space shouldn’t mean a big price tag and my space certainly didn’t come with one. Leave me a comment with your favorite ways to style your home on a budget!
