Valentine’s Day for Her

valentines gift ideas

Only a few more weeks until Valentine’s Day! Most of us girls get excited for this special day (unless you’re my mom who’s too practical for all of it.) I wrote this post specifically for you gals to share with your guys. It serves as a little “guidance” for them so they have a few ideas of what Valentine’s gift to get you. We all love the flowers and chocolate that’s a traditional part of the season, but in recent years men, including my boyfriend, have upped the ante a little.

Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas

Last Year, David got me a really cute Kate Spade bag for Valentine’s Day and then took me out to dinner! While not every guy is going to want to put down the cash for a designer hand bag, he knows I’m a fashion blogger and that Kate Spade is my favorite brand ever. In my gift guide, I’ve included gift ideas in a variety of price ranges for however big your Valentine’s Day will be! Remember to send your man the link to your favorite item!

5 Things Every Girl Should Know About Starting a Fashion Blog

how to start a successful blog

I’ve been thinking about writing a blog post on the craziness that is starting a fashion or lifestyle blog for awhile. So many girls want to start a blog or have started one and become discouraged with it after a few weeks or months. When I started Witty n Pretty, I thought fashion blogging was going to be glamorous and dare I say it- easy! Oh, how wrong I was. Today, I’m sharing with perspective bloggers and new bloggers wondering what in the heck they’re doing, 5 things to know about starting a blog

Blogging is Hard

Duh! Nothing worth doing is ever easy, right? I found that out quickly and if you haven’t already, you will soon. Fashion blogging is a saturated market with tons of competition from girls (and a few guys) that have more money than you, better photography skills, and just seem to have it all together. You’ll think you have it all together one minute and the next, you’ll want to give up. Don’t. Keep going!

There are No Rewards… at First

Contrary to popular belief, fashion blogging is not a “get rich quick” scheme. It simply doesn’t work like that. Fashion, lifestyle, and beauty blogging involves tons of work with little reward at first. Personally, I didn’t reap any rewards in terms of free product until about a year and a half of blogging consistently. After that, I started getting things here and there, which let me tell you, was a HUGE deal for me.

Fashion Blogging Takes Commitment

The number one reason why most blogs fail is because the blogger gives up after 3 months. Seriously, 3 months! People want things to happen quickly and let’s be real, the things we want the most God usually makes us wait for. To have a chance at success, you must blog consistently, provide information or inspiration, and know who you’re writing to. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve scrolled through my WordPress Reader and seen posts titled something like “Sorry I’ve Been Gone” followed by an entire paragraph about their absence. Readers don’t want excuses; they want good content.

A Blogger Wears Many Hats

When I started blogging, I thought I would be a writer not a photographer, social media guru, SEO expert, website coder, public relations girl, and a marketer. I was wrong. Because it’s just me running my Dallas-based fashion blog, I have to do it all myself (with a little help from my boyfriend, David.) You will have to learn things that make no sense to you and you have no interest in. But guess what? It makes your knowledge of the industry incredibly robust so that when you do become a famous fashion blogger, you know everything there is to know about blogging.

The Comparison Game is Toxic

I think girls compare themselves more to each other than guys ever will. If you don’t agree with me, you will after becoming a fashion blogger. When you start paying attention to what other bloggers are doing and who they are, you’ll begin comparing yourself to everyone else. You’ll begin to wonder why everyone else has bigger and better followings, wardrobes, photos, brand connections, and even longer eye lashes than you. Let me tell you, this comparison game is so dangerous to your self-esteem. I’ve gotten sucked into so many times and it takes a whole lot of effort to get out. Compare yourself to no one except the person you were the day before. That’s who you’re trying to beat.

Stay tuned next week for an exciting announcement on something I’m launching for girls new to blogging or who’d like to start! You’re going to love this!

Local Boutique Finds in San Antonio

boutiques in texas

One of my favorite things about being a fashion and home decor blogger is being able to feature amazing new boutiques and small businesses. Since moving to Dallas, I’ve gotten to find some of the cutest little shops this city has to offer. However, one of my favorite boutiques is the Anderson Road Co., run by two awesome people in San Antonio! Since not everyone is blessed to live in the great state of Texas, their store is online so everyone can enjoy it. Here are a few of my favorite products!

W & P Pineapple Shaker

For someone who appreciates functionality and style, you’ll love this cocktail shaker! It has a copper finish but is made from sturdy stainless steel. I run out of cabinet room in my kitchen pretty quickly so I love home decor items that I can have sitting out on my counter top!

Maxx & Unicorn Pill Key Ring

I can’t stand normal key rings that require me to chip at least one nail to get a key onto them. This pill key ring is made right here in the USA from brass.

Root & Willow Lava Scrub

A great body scrub is hard to find, but this one is made from organic ingredients! This particular fragrance is called Rosewood & Honey and includes a daily mantra to look forward to every time you enjoy it.

W & P Host Book

A lot of times I find books like these are only going to gather dust on my coffee table, but this book is different! It’s a recipe book that includes recipes for smaller gatherings and larger ones. Entertaining is something that I haven’t done much of, so any how-to book I can get my hands on is fun for me to read!

Cotton & Flax Tea Towel

My collection of cute hand towels continues to grow every time I go shopping! This adorable tea towel is handmade and uses eco-friendly ink for the neat grid lines printed on the front.

Support small business and please give the Anderson Road Company a visit! They’re offering 10% off purchases today for an added bonus!

Target Dollar Spot Christmas Finds

Happy Monday lovelies! I hope you’ve recovered from your crazy Thanksgiving festivities and are on the mend. My Thanksgiving was quite busy in San Antonio; David and I spent it with his family and friends. Frankly, I’m still stuffed from all of the food! I think I had about five plates of turkey and stuffing by the end of the day. No regrets! This season is so wonderful for yummy treats but so terrible for my waistline.

Since Christmas is now in full swing, I went and browsed the Target dollar section to see what holiday goodies I could find and I wasn’t disappointed! They had cute Christmas salt and pepper shakers, wrapping paper, snow globe place cards, hats and mittens, and plenty of glittery items! I bought Christmas themed dish towels (with Christmas trees on them, of course) and this adorable pink Christmas tree I wanted to share with you guys!

You’ll never guess how much it cost! It was $3! You don’t even know how excited I am about something so small and simple. The ornaments were also $3 for the whole box. The Target dollar spot is my favorite place to find fun little decorative items like this for cheap. I think we can all relate to how hard it is to go into the store just needing one thing and not come out with an additional $50 worth of stuff. The struggle is real!

Where will I be putting my new pink tree? On my desk at work of course! I like to add a little merriment wherever I go. Hopefully no one in the office will mind all of the glitter that follows! Anyway, tell me about your recent Target dollar section finds in the comments! I love to see what other Targets have in their dollar spots!

Refreshing Your Winter Wardrobe

monogrammed vestsHappy Monday lovelies! I spent the weekend cleaning and organizing my apartment to get ready for the holidays. It was also rather chilly out so for the first time since I moved to Dallas, I got to wear long sleeves! On Sunday, I decided it was time to switch out my summer clothes for my fall and winter clothes, which inspired me to write this post! Refreshing your winter wardrobe doesn’t necessarily mean going to Macy’s and buying all-new everything though. For me, it means trying things on and figuring out if I still like it and if it still fits well. Here are a few tips to get your wardrobe ready for the chilly months!

Decide What to Toss

As I was dragging storage bags out from under my bed, I immediately noticed several articles of clothing that I knew I wouldn’t wear no matter how much I tried to convince myself. However, nothing in the world can convince me that I don’t need all of my quilted vests and fluffy scarves. My favorite monogrammed vest is from Marley Lilly (link here). Getting rid of the things you really don’t have room for in your closet helps save you room and allows you to better judge what you need for the coming winter!

Organize Accessories

I have so many belts, hats, scarves, and purses that they often get lost in my closet behind a big coat or something. Of course, they never end up getting worn even if they’re really cute. Find a simple way to organize them that allows quick access. For example, I hang all of my necklaces on a circular, spinning tie rack that hangs on one of the racks in my closet. It works so well and keeps them from getting tangled. Plus, it looks prettier and more put together!

Take Photos of New Outfits

Whenever I’m going through my clothing at the beginning of a new season, I always try to come up with a few new outfits out of the existing clothes I have. Sometimes I don’t even realize how much I have until I look at it from a fresh perspective. Take photos of the new outfits you create so you can remember to wear them!

Pack Up Your Summer Clothing

My last tip is to take all of your summer clothes out of your closet for a clearer, more open space. I used to keep all of my clothes in my closet year round. Instead of focusing on the great winter clothes I had, I was distracted by the summer clothes that I couldn’t wear. Clear all of that out and pack it in boxes or space bags. Hint: roll your clothes to conserve space!
